• Ages: 10–18 years old
• Schedule: 1 & 2 week intensive sessions
Marine science courses at Seacamp are under the guidance of academically trained marine science instructors, biologists, geologists, and oceanographers. Seacamp has been serving 10 to 17 year old boys and girls since 1966 as a marine science summer camp and education center and is described as the longest running marine science camp in the country. It is a family organization founded over 60 years ago by Irene Hooper, later led by her sister Grace Upshaw, and now by Grace's son, Reece Spencer. The program and campus operate year-round with a stated mission to create awareness of the complex and fragile marine world and to foster critical thinking and informed decision making about humanity's use of natural resources.
The Newfound Harbor Marine Institute (NHMI), started in 1970 as Seacamp Association's school program, offers experiential marine science and environmental education from September through May for students from 4th grade through college level, as well as teachers. Approximately 5,000 students, teachers, and parent chaperones attend NHMI programs each year. The online registration site for Seacamp contains information about transportation, what to bring, camp store credit, permission forms, and health forms.
